We were full of turkey, potatoes, and pie. By the time we pulled into our home away from home, we were ready to relax. It was backwoods dark out so we were not capable of seeing the wonders that were surrounding us. We would have to wait until sunrise the next morning for Tully Pond to reveal her majesty to us. She did not disappoint.

At around 5:45am the first cracks of daylight started to outline the peak and lake just outside of our window. I put on the kettle, made some coffee, and watched it unfold right in front of our eyes. Once the light was good enough, I ran out with camera and phone in hand to capture it all. After the loss of our beloved Myrtle the week prior, this was the respite that we both had been needing. For the first time in weeks, a sense of peace, calm, ease washed over me. I exhaled for the first time in what feels like months. I noticed the perfect lake house directly across from ours, and wondered what was going on over there. Who lived there, and did they prefer the view of the lake versus the view of Mt. Tully? Did they also have a great view from the other side of their house? I never did find out, but I sure did enjoy photographing their home.
At one point, Heather leaned in and whispered “Imagine what this place must look like when it snows…” Little did either of us know, we were going to find out the next morning. Once the sun went down on Black Friday, snow just seemed to fall from all directions. It felt like one of those Hallmark movies. A young city doctor drives off the road in a rural Massachusetts town. He is saved by some tough, yet tender local woman just looking for her prince. But alas, it was the two of us driving 10 mph down dark New England back roads in a snow squall. We made it back to our cabin and hunkered down.

When the sun rose the next morning, the whole area was blanketed in a delicate, soft snow. There was ice on the lake, the naked trees now dressed in a mix of ice and snow. As the sun made her way across the sky, Mt. Tully glowed and reminded us all was good in the world. The air was still crisp. Just like the morning before, I ran out with my camera and phone. I tried to capture it all. I did not want to miss a thing!
Saturday morning came, and we packed up and headed out back to our shire in South Philadelphia. We are already excited about returning in the spring or summer and sitting by a warm campfire over looking the lake and taking in the star filled New England summer sky.
